YUKON AND NWT AREA CODE CHANGE INFORMATION

Currently,  the Canadian North uses parts of the 403 (AB)  area code in
the west and the 819 (Quebec) area code in the east.  Late in 1997, the
region will be assigned a new area code,  867 ("TOP"), which will cover
the current Yukon Territory and  Northwest Territories.  Some exchanges
from both 403 and 819 will move to the new 867 NPA.

Permissive dialing period begins October 21, 1997.
Permissive dialing period ends April 26, 1998.

Test number: (867) 669-5448 gives recording if successfully dialed.

Note:
403-979 Inuvik will need to have an NXX change as NPA 867 is established.
This is because it conflicts with 819-979 Iqaluit which will become 867-979.
Inuvik's new NXX will be 777.
